The Luzon grid will be on yellow alert again on Tuesday, June 4.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the Luzon grid would be on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to 12 a. m. of June 5.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission gridโ€™s contingency requirement.

The NGCP said the expected demand for power is 600MW higher than the demand on Monday.

It noted that the Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. (QPPL), Pagbilao 2, and San Lorenzo 50 plants were out.

Meanwhile, the Angat Main plant is unavailable due to low water elevation, while the Masinloc 1, Masinloc 2, Calaca 2, and Ilijan A plants remain on derated capacities.

All in all, two plants have been down since 2023, while another two were on forced outage between January and March 2024.

Another 12 power plants went down between April and May 2024, while 4 are running on derated capacities.

This means 2,280.8MW of power are unavailable to Filipinos.

The Philippines has been experiencing power shortages since April
